About Mintmark
Mintmark is a collection log, not a magic appraiser. It exists because most coin apps answer one question — “is this penny valuable?” — and then have nothing left to offer the person with three hundred coins in flips, a half-finished set of Mercury dimes, and an insurance agent asking for documentation.
It's built by an independent developer, and it's built around a few principles that don't bend:
AI that says what it sees, and says it's AI
Every assessment in Mintmark is produced by AI and labeled as AI, plainly, on every surface it appears. The assessors describe observable features — strike, surface marks, wear, luster — and locate them on the coin. They never assign a grade, because a photograph is not a coin in hand, and pretending otherwise is how collectors get burned.
No invented numbers
Mintmark does not estimate market value, and it does not certify authenticity. A number recalled from stale data and dressed up as an appraisal is worse than no number. Where the app states a fixed historical fact — a mintage, a designer, a composition — it tells you where that figure came from.
Your collection is yours
No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no selling data. The collection lives on your device, exports are generated on your device, and the only data that ever leaves is a photo you chose to scan. The privacy policy is short because there isn't much to disclose.
Status
Mintmark is in development, coming first to iPhone. If you collect — or you've just inherited a box and don't know where to start — we'd like to hear from you.
